Digital Imaging represents the working group affiliated with the university research repository, Discovery Commons. The initial focus of the department is on digitizing and preserving collections associated with research at Virginia Tech, and providing access to those collections through the repository initiative sponsored by Information Technology. The primary community we serve includes the members (faculty, students, and users) of the university, and the extended populace represented by the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Discovery Commons is guided by principles of trustworthiness, file formatting standards and responsible stewardship. The materials in Discovery Commons are available to all to the extent permitted by law and granted by each collection sponsor, providing the published record as a public service to users.

We encourage faculty to submit support proposals for inclusion in the repository that develop existing collections of research or projects that create a resource for discovery.
